The Fire Coordinator's Office conducts training programs in the different techniques of fire fighting for volunteer fire fighters in the county. Training programs are conducted at local fire stations. The office also coordinates mutual aid services and serves as liaison between county government and the Fire Advisory Board, County Chief's Association, Firemen's Association, Fire Police Association, HazMat Team, Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team, and Rope Rescue Team. In addition, we conduct cause and origin investigations for local fire departments and the Fire Related Youth program in the county. |

News Release: Time to Check Your Smoke Alarms
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County, in collaboration with the Oswego County Fire Coordinator’s office, is hosting a meeting about the NEW OPEN BURN LAW that took effect on October 14, 2009. The law prohibits open burning in the State of New York. This informative meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 31st, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Mexico VFW Post on Scenic Ave/State Rte. 3 in Mexico, NY.
Regional Air Pollution Control Engineer, NYSDEC Region 7, Reggie Parker will be speaking about the new regulation and how it applies to the agricultural community. Dr. Robert Somers, Manager of the Agricultural Protection Unit at the Department of Agriculture & Markets will be on hand to answer questions and provide insight to Ag and Market’s role in the law. This is a great opportunity to gain information about this new law and it’s details. The Oswego County agricultural community is also invited to this meeting and it will be a great opportunity for shared awareness and understanding about this new law.
