Preventive Services

The Preventive Programs of the Public Health Nursing Service provide a wide variety of Preventive Health Services in the areas of maternal/child health, chronic health issues, and communicable disease control. The goal of Preventive Services is to promote the optimum level of health for all residents of Oswego County through a full complement of comprehensive preventive services.

Maternal/Child Health Services

Home visits by Registered Professional Nurses (Preventive and Skilled Care)

Communicable Disease Prevention

Communicable Disease Control: surveillance of all communicable diseases
Tuberculosis Control Program
Diagnosis and treatment of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
HIV testing
Immunization Clinics: state required immunizations for all ages, plus influenza and pneumonia shots

Health Promotion Activities

Lead Poisoning Prevention Program: prevention, testing, investigation, and abatement

Employee Health Screenings

Rabies Pre- and Post-Exposure Vaccination Program
