Last year over 5.2 million hits were made to the Web address, with total visitors amounting to over 443,500. Those are impressive numbers, showing that both residents and tourists visit the various county departments and area businesses for information. For many years, the tourism pages of the Web site attracted the most usage, because visitors could access fishing information, accommodations, charters and guide service information from our site. However, since the county's Real Property Tax Services database came on-line, it has proven to the most popular destination for Web site visitors. Residents, banks, realtors, attorneys, and abstract companies can learn about assessments and property descriptions without driving to the County Office Building in Oswego. Senior programmer John St. John of the county's Central Services department created the database. It was especially popular shortly before the county's tax auction this past fall. Other popular pages of the Web site are the community links section with hyperlinks to county businesses and organizations, Board of Elections, County Clerk's office, county news releases, directory of news media serving Oswego County, Sheriff's Department, and County Legislature. Visitors can download voter registration forms, motor vehicle forms, tourism publications or even the county's comprehensive plan. In fact, the most popular form to be downloaded and printed by visitors is the Oswego County Government Directory, which lists county and other municipal elected and appointed officials. Here are some interesting Web statistics:
County businesses may also take advantage of Internet visitors to the site. If your business or non-profit group is not hyperlinked to the county site, you are missing a large audience.
